Zamfara ‘bandits’ free 41 kidnapped persons

Gov. AbdulAziz Yari of Zamfara, has called on security operatives to intensify efforts to curtail the activities of bandits operating in the state.

The governor made the call on Wednesday in Gusau at a ceremony organised to receive 41 people rescued from bandits in Maru Local Government Area of the state.

The bandits had in the past few weeks, killed 55 people and kidnapped over 50 in Maru, Maradun, Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of Zamfara.

Yari said that the rescue of the 41 kidnapped victims by the government in collaboration with security agencies was indication of the commitment of his administration to address insecurity challenges facing the state.

He promised that government would not allow criminals to continue to kill innocent people.

He said that his administration in collaboration with the Federal Government was working hard to end the menace.

“We call on traditional leaders, government officials and other stakeholders to cooperate with the government in ensuring the success of the task.

“We have set up different strategies and methods to fight these barbaric activities by some criminals; all what we need is collective support and cooperation from all stakeholders,’’ he said.

He urged the people in the state to continue to pray for Allah’s intervention in the security situation.

Earlier, the state Deputy Governor, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala, who led the negotiation team with the bandits, announced that the 41 kidnapped victims were released unconditionally. (NAN)
