The  News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that  Sheikh Abdulazeez Yusuf, the 90-year-old Administrative Secretary of the Jama’atu Nasirul Islam (JNI) in Plateau, who was kidnapped on Wednesday, is still being held, according to Sani Mudi, JNI spokesman.

Mudi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Thursday, that Yusuf was kidnapped along with his driver on their way to Kaduna.

“They were kidnapped around Saminaka in Lere Local Government, Kaduna State.”

He said that the cleric, who coordinates the activities of JNI in six states, was on his was to Sokoto to condole with the family of the late Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki.

He said that the kidnappers got in touch with the JNI in Kaduna and made some demands, but declined to disclose further details.

He said, however, that the JNI in Plateau was taking the situation with calmness.

“ We are taking the situation with calmness and praying to the almighty to ensure his safe and quick release.” h

Mudi also expressed surprise that the cleric was a target of any kidnap.

“ I wonder why somebody who has served the religion all his life, teaching and preaching, will be targeted by the wicked kidnappers.”

Mudi described the cleric as “a very harmless person”, adding that the incident had been reported to all security agencies concerned.
