Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki Sunday told the people of the State to expect a government that will be a clear departure from that of his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.

This is even as he warned that henceforth, there will be no more free lunch anymore, adding, “you must work to chop.”

The governor who disclosed this at the Government House in Benin, during a reception for guests after a Thanks-Giving service, said his administration would be radically different from the one experienced in the last four years as it would focus on governance, rather than politics.

“You will find out that our administration is going to be slightly different, if not radically different, from the last four years and the reason is simple. In the last four years, we had to do a lot of politics because we had to recover our state from strange people who took over.

“By the grace of God, we have recovered our state; it is now our state. In the next four years, we are going to be concentrating on what to do with our state.

“We are going to be having more governance and less politics, so that we can move Edo forward. But I can assure you that nobody will be left out.‎ There is space for everybody – the young, the not-too-young and the old; we have plans for everybody.

“But the problem we have is that we now have to get value for everything we have. There is no free lunch anymore; everybody must now work to earn. You must work to chop,” Obaseki warned. ‎

Speaking on what to expect his cabinet to look like, the Governor explained that his cabinet would take shape‎ at the appropriate time, when the tasks and persons qualified to handle them have been identified.

This is even as he urged the youth to be patient with his administration as it was committed to fulfilling his campaign promise on job creation. ‎

‎”‎When we have done that, then we will ask who is capable to do it. That is when we will appoint those who are going to do it. So, just give me time. One thing I can assure you is that we will only do the right thing because we know what is at stake.

“If you have been patient all these years, will you not give me 90 days? We want to change things radically. We have not less than half a million of young men and women between the ages of 19 and 35, at least half a million who are doing nothing.

“I know if I have the figures, I will have to begin to do something about it. So please, just be patient with me. We will get there and we will get there sooner than you think.”
