The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin-Can Island Command said that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had confirmed that materials contained in eight bags, each with 25 pieces of smaller bags totalling 214.7 kg were indeed cocaine.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Uche Ejesieme,  disclosed this in a document made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday In Lagos.

“The cocaine was contained in a 20ft. container.

“This particular seizure ranks among the highest in terms of volume in recent times.

The container originated from New Zealand.

“In the words of the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Yusuf Bashar, this is no doubt a spectacular and remarkable seizure considering the well -articulated intelligence adopted,“ NAN quotes Ejesieme as saying.

The comptroller said that all hands were on deck in all ramifications to ensure that the Tin-Can Port continued to blaze the trail.

“Especially, with the recent commendation letter from the Comptroller-General of Customs to the management of command for being at the forefront due to diligence and professionalism,’’ Bashir said.

He said that the command also generated N207.8 billion between January and October.  (NAN)
