The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), an umbrella body of Nigerian youths, has disclaimed Mr Ikenga Ugochinyere who was parading himself as the National President of the council.

The President, Interim Committee of the Council, Malam Murtala Garba, made this known at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja.

Garba urged the media, general public, security agencies, especially FCT Police Command, to disregard Ikanga and any action or statement credited to him as it does not represent the position of the council.

“Mr Ikenga Ugochinyere is neither the President nor is he a member of the present National Youth Council of Nigeria.

“In essence, the statement recently credited to him on the media about the FCT police command is baseless and does not represent the voice of the present NYCN,’’ Garba said.

It would be recalled that Ikanga alleged on a television station that the FCT Police commissioner was plotting to intimidate him as the youth council president.

Garba noted that the NYC had never witnessed any form of intimidation either from the FCT police command or any other security agency.

“This is just an attempt by the author of the said report to disparage the youth council and give a negative impression about this law abiding organisation,’’ he said.

He emphasised that the NYC was a law abiding group and a very good friend of the present administration which has special priority for the youth. (NAN)
