Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Enugu Rangers, will begin their league title defence at home to Abia Warriors in the first Oriental Derby of the 2016/17 top flight campaign.

 The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the draw for Match Day One of the 2016/17 NPFL was conducted on Saturday night at the Golden Royale Hotel, Bissala Road, Enugu.

NAN recalls that while the Flying Antelopes won top prize last term, Abia Warriors narrowly escaped relegation after a final day home win against Shooting Stars of Ibadan (3SC)

The biggest pairing for Week One is the clash between Enyimba International FC and Sunshine Stars of Akure.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah will be on the road to Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium

Wikki Tourists host Nasarawa United at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi while Shooting Stars welcome Lobi Stars to Ibadan.

As reflected in the draw, newcomers Remo Stars are at home to Plateau United at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu Ode.

Another promoted team ABS FC will have their baptism with an epic clash with Akwa United in Ilorin.

MFM FC of Lagos in their second season in the country’s apex league would be up against Niger Tornadoes at the Agege Stadium.

Stanley Eguma’s Rivers United face Elkanemi Warriors in the Garden City of Port Harcourt.

Katsina United and Gombe United completes the list of fixtures in the match day one of the next campaign at the Karkanda Stadium.
