NA and DSS arrest six suspects in Ibadan over murder of a colonel

Men of the Directorate of Secret Service, DSS and that of 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, have arrested six persons that were alleged of murdering the former Commandant, Command Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan. Col. Anthony Okeyim.

The Deputy Director, Public Relations, 2 Division, Col Timothy Antigha, who disclosed this at a news conference jointly addressed with Commander, 2 Division Provost Group, Col Abdullahi Ibrahim said that the lifeless body of the deceased killed around 10pm on December 11, last year in his official house in the school was found in the school’s premises on December 12, 2016.

Autopsy reports said the deceased died as a result of rise in intracranial pressure from intracranial hemorrhage caused by fracture of the skull. He was said to have been promoted to the rank of brigadier three weeks before his death and he was waiting to be fully decorated with his new rank at the time his assassination.

The suspects who are cooling their heads in the cell of 2 Division are: first suspect, Solomon Agada Emmanuel, 20, second suspect, Bibisoye Kehinde, 27, third suspect, Taiwo Adeniyi, 34, fourth suspect, Ewere Andrew,25, fifth suspect, Ephraim Obi, 38, and sixth suspect, Udobata Onusa, 28.

According to Antigha, the first suspect who was expelled over N70,000 theft allegedly planned the operation because he used to be a student of the school and he knew in and out of the school adding that the suspects and available evidence that linked them to the incident have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Antigha said, “I am pleased to inform you that a breakthrough has been made in the investigation. We have in our custody, six individuals, who we have reasons to believe played varying roles in the killing of the late senior officer in his residence. On the day the late senior officer was killed, it was reported that his cell phone was stolen. The phone, a Samsung X4 phone was found in the possession of the first suspect (Solomon Agada Emmanuel). He claimed he got the phone from the third suspect (Taiwo Adeniyi). He (Adeniyi) also stated that on the night of December 11, 2016, he and other suspects named above went to Command Secondary School, Apata in ash coloured Toyota Camry car, belonging to the fifth suspect (Ephraim Obi)”.

Continuing, “The second suspect (Bibisoye Kehinde, fondly called Efrebor), confirmed that the fifth suspect’s car was used for the murder. He admitted that he was the one who switched off the generator in the deceased officer’s house before the murder. He described the late senior officer vividly, as well as the dress the deceased officer wore at the time of their attack. The third suspect (Taiwo Adeniyi) stated that he was notified of the plot to attack the late senior officer by the second suspect. The fourth suspect stated he was with the second, third, fifth and sixth suspects during the murder of the late senior officer. The fifth suspect provided the logistics for the operation, as his car, as coloured Toyota Camry was used to move the gang to and from Command Secondary School, Apata. The sixth suspect was mentioned by others as being a member of the gang”.

It was stated that two of the suspects: Solomon Agada Emmanuel and Bibisoye Kehinde confirmed that they carried out the operation stressing that the gang was contracted by a rich Igbo man to deal with the deceased over a dispute on a landed property.
