Rangers International Football Club of Enugu on Sunday defeated visiting El-Kanemi Warriors FC 1–0 in a Match Day 3 fixture of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

In the match played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Bobby Clement scored the only goal of the match in the 27th minute of the second half.

Reacting after the game, Rangers’ coach Imama Amapakabo said he was grateful to God now that his team were picking their first maximum three points in the new season.

Amapakabo however said he would work on some of the departments of his team to make the team more formidable in their next match.

“Today’s match against El-Kanemi was of good football standard and we thank God for picking the three maximum points.

“I must confess that we played a different El-Kanemi Warriors team today, since they came with resilience and determination,’’ he said.

‎In his own views, coach of the Maiduguri-based El Kanemi Warriors, Ladan Bosso, said Rangers narrowly won the match “as the match was a 50-50 game’’.

Bosso said that his team had shown tremendous improvement compared to last season.

“The match today in Enugu is a clear statement that El-Kanemi Warriors FC is a team to contend with anytime and anywhere in the country.

“We held the league champions for over 70 minutes, before lack of concentration cost us the goal,’’ he added.(NAN)
