NSCDC arrest 20 suspects for theft, vandalism in Borno

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Borno Command, says on Friday said that it has arrested 20 suspects in connection with vandalism and theft in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The Commandant of the corps in the state, Abdullahi Ibrahim, who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, said the corps made the arrests between October to December 2016.

Ibrahim said three suspects were arrested for diversion of petrol and Kerosene products while eight suspects were apprehended for vandalising PHCN installations.

He also said three other suspects were arrested for theft of various government installations, cables, batteries of street lights and solar panels and six suspects for other offences.

“Recently, we arrested a suspect who has been stealing diesel from generators that is powering the street lights in the town.

‘’The suspect said he had been doing the business for the about 19 months, admitting that he had made over N4 million from the sale of the diesel.

“So far, he is providing us with information and we have gone after his collaborators who allegedly bought the commodities from him,” said Abdullahi.

Abdullahi said that the command had intensified surveillance on critical government infrastructure like hospitals, schools, dams, secretariat and liberated local government areas to curb menace of vandalism.
