Rev. Samson Ayokunle , President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has charged the newly elected executives for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ensure unity in the body of Christ.

The president gave the advice during inauguration which took place at the National Christian Centre on Saturday in Abuja.

Ayokunle, who was represented by Rev. Israel Akanji, Chairman, North Central Zone, also called on Christians across the country to brace up to the current challenges through prayers.

The association inaugurated a 10-member executive of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

Ayokunle further said that it was pertinent for the people as children of God to be their brother’s keeper, adding that they should not allow challenges in the country to mar them but to make them.

In his message, Prof. Jeremiah Gado, President, Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA), noted that majority of problems currently in the church and the society were as a result of bad leadership.

Gado said that prayer, vision and planning among other pillars, must be built and developed by the incoming leadership of CAN in the nation’s capital to promote unity.

The cleric called on Nigerians to ensure that character of the people to be elected should reflect the character of God.

“Pastors must lead the church according to the character of God. Look for good people; this has been the problem in CAN, Church and Nigeria.

‘There are some pastors who are pastor in name; there are some Christians who are Christian in name, their god is their belly,’’ he said.

In his acceptance speech, the FCT CAN Chairman, Rev Jonah Samson, said poverty, occultism, insecurity; recession, moral decadence and spiritual dilapidation were currently holding sway in the country.

“The people of God should hold fast to what they have; let no one take away their crown,’’ he said.

He said that the church of God in the FCT would glow in the glory of God by promoting the unity of the church.
