Yemisi Aribisala Wins the Prestigious John Avery Award

On 36 January 2017, top Nigerian food essayist, Yemisi Aribisala, won in the UK the prestigious John Avery Award at the Andre Simon Food and Drink Awards for her book, ”Long Throat Memoirs: Soup, Sex and Nigerian Taste Buds” published by Cassava Republic Press. Yemisi Aribisala is the first black African to win the award.

Bibi Bakare-Yusuf, Publishing Director of Cassava Press, accepted the award on behalf of Aribisala. The judges praised the originality of the book in its style and contents.

Cassava Republic Press says it is very proud and delighted to have won the prestigious prize. Yemisi Aribisala, a gifted essayist, has not only written about Nigerian food, she has also written about Nigerian politics and religion. She lives now in Cape Town with her children.
