Contrary to news spreading like wildfire across the country, the Redeemed Christian Church of God has clarified that Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye remains its worldwide General Overseer.

Leke, the last son of Adeboye and clergyman’s personal assistant clarified in a statement that his father only stepped down as head of the Nigeria church, but will remain RCCG’s worldwide overseer

He also explained that contrary to speculations that the cleric’s action was due to his age, a new General Overseer was appointed for Nigeria in compliance with  new statutory requirement of Financial Regulations Council for all registered churches, mosques, and CSOs.

The new legal requirement stipulate that heads of non-profit organisations like churches now have a maximum period of 20 years to lead their organisations while in retirement.

He added that such heads are also not permitted to hand over to their families.

Adeboye also reiterated that Pastor Funsho Odesola has been appointed the new church secretary, while Pastor Joseph Adeyokunu is the new church treasurer.‎

He therefore urged all members of the church to understand the new structure.

“We appeal to members to educate people around them and not spread inaccurate information, as Pastor E.A Adeboye remains the General Overseer of RCCG Worldwide,” Adeboye added.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye had announced his decision to step down as the GO of Nigerian chapter of RCCG on Saturday during the Annual Minister’s Thanksgiving at Shimawa area of Ogun State.

He announced Pastor Joseph Obayemi as the new General Overseer of the Church in Nigeria.

But this was construed in media reports which indicated that the GO has stepped down completely from the leadership of RCCG worldwide.
