U.S. President Donald Trump says he is beaming searchlights on those he claims are leaking secrets of White House to the media.

Trump made this claim in view of the ongoing controversies over the contacts between his disgraced National Security Adviser, Gen. Michael Flynn and Russia.

Trump, who has continued to accuse the media for “firing” Flynn over what he termed their “fake news”, queried why the information considered as “classified” got leaked to the media.

He accused the intelligence agencies, Democrats and the media of being behind the embarrassing leak that cost Flynn his job.

“Leaking, and even illegal classified leaking, has been a big problem in Washington for years.

“The spotlight has finally been put on the low-life leakers! They will be caught!” Trump tweeted on Thursday.

Trump had on Wednesday made his first public statement on Flynn’s resignation over the scandal during a press conference with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He described Flynn as a “great and wonderful man” who was only “treated badly and unfairly by the media”.

He alleged that the embattled former adviser was attacked by the U.S. intelligence agencies and the media to cover up the loss of Democratic Hillary Clinton.

“General Flynn is a great man, he’s a wonderful man and I think he was treated so badly and unfairly by the fake media.

“I think from intelligence, information are being leaked just to cover up the terrible loss of Democrats and Clinton.

“I think it is very unfair the way General Flynn was treated and it’s very very bad,” Trump said.

Monday’s resignation of Flynn came after admitting that he had made “inappropriate” statements to Vice President Mike Pence, about contacts with Russia in December 2016 during Trump’s presidential transition.

Trump had also dismissed the alleged influence of the Russian connection with his electoral victory, describing it as “nonsense”.

“This Russian connection nonsense is merely an attempt to cover-up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton’s losing campaign,” Trump tweeted, dismissing conflicts of interest.

The president accused “the fake news media going crazy with their conspiracy theories and blind hatred.

“The real scandal here is that classified information is illegally given out by ‘intelligence’ like candy. Very un-American!” he tweeted.

“Information is being illegally given to the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost by the intelligence community (NSA and FBI?),” he twetted.

Trump tried to counter accusations that he is sympathetic to Russian President Vladimir Putin by pointing out that the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea was seized when Obama was in the White House.

“Was Obama too soft on Russia?” Trump queried.

The Criminal Investigative Agency (CIA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and National Security Agency (NSA) all have expressed “high confidence” that Putin sought to influence the Nov. 8, 2016, U.S. election.

They believed Russia hacked Democratic Party targets during the elect ion. (NAN)
