The late Florence Seriki

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has been thrown into mourning, following the passing of Mrs Florence Seriki, who died on March 3.

Seriki, 53, was the founder of Omatek Ventures Plc., an indigenous ICT company.

Mr Jide Awe, the Chairman, NCS Conference Committee, said in a statement in Lagos that Seriki’s passing was a huge loss to the ICT sector.

Seriki, was said to have died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after a brief illness.

Awe described Seriki as an IT Amazon, dogged entrepreneur, pacesetter and industrialist, who made giant strides in the sector.

He said that Seriki she was the immediate past president of the Information Technology Association of Nigeria and was a member of the national executive council of the NCS for several years.

The NCS committee chairman said that Seriki was also a fellow of the NCS, Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Institute of Directors.

Awe said further that Seriki had won many awards because of her exploits in the ICT sector and her contributions to national development.

“She was honoured with the award of Member of the Federal Republic in recognition of her contributions to national development.

“In 2015, she emerged the NCS IT personality of the year among so many other awards,” Awe recalled.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Seriki played pioneering role with her company in original equipment manufacturing.

She started Omatek 25 years ago with the company specializing in manufacturing of computers and other ICT devices.

Seriki was the founder and chief executive officer of the first completely knocked-down computer factory in Nigeria and Ghana.

She held a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University.

Her death has been described as a big blow to the Nigerian ICT industry. (NAN)
