Deceased lawyer, wife, arraigned for altering a will

Five accused persons have been arraigned before an Oyo State Chief magistrate court, Iyaganku, Ibadan presided over by Mr. Taiwo Oladiran for forging and altering the will of one late Professor Oluwole Amusa.

Late Amusa who died on August 11, 2016 was head, department of physical and health education, University of Ibadan. He had retired from the service of the University before his death.

The accused who were arraigned on three counts charge with suit number M1/318/2017 are: 72 years old lawyer to the deceased, Mr Fasomo Falola; 41years old, Mrs. Akangbe Olubunmi, secretary to the deceased, wife to the deceased, a 71-year-old Olubunmi Amusa, Prof. Adedoyin Soyibo,70 and Dr. Junaid Olaniyi Ogundiran, 70.

According to the prosecutor, Oriola James, the suspects with others at large on 19th March, 2015 at about 9am at Ibadan magisterial district did conspire together to commit felony to wit forgery adding that they forged the signature on the will of late Professor Amusa on the said date and time.

He said that on 5th January, 2017 at the Oyo state High Court, Ibadan, the five defendants did knowingly and fraudulent altered the will of the deceased Professor Amusa pointing out that the offences contravened sections 516, 467 and 468, Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.

The counsels to all the accused persons pleaded with the court to grant their clients unconditional bail.

Ruling, the presiding Magistrate Mr. Taiwo Oladiran granted the suspects bail condition of N50, 000 with one surety each apart from the first defendant, being a lawyer who was granted bail on self recognition with one surety and two photographs with identity card.

He adjourned the case to May 9 2017.
