In no distant time, the people of Umuahia South L.G.A in Abia State may abandon the use of electrically generated energy for solar energy.

The Executive Chairman of the Council, Prince Obioma Ogbulafor, disclosed this in his office while interacting with newsmen. According to him, arrangements have been concluded with foreign firms to train youths of the area in solar energy production and maintenance. The Chairman said though youths of the council are responding to the training, he is not however impressed with the turn out so far as it is his desire to train as many youths as possible. He explained that this is part of his youth empowerment package for youths in his council.

Prince Obioma Ogbulafor who is the son of one time National Chairman of PDP, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, said he is not in support of the abrogation of Local Government Councils in Nigeria because it is the third tier of government that is closer to the people and it is through the council areas that the rural dwellers feel the impact of governance and as such should be allowed to stay. He was full of praises for the state governor who he said recognized this fact and organized Local Government election in the State. He further disclosed that his administration in Umuahia South will witness a massive boost in the agrarian sector. In line with this the council has opened up talks with some foreign investors in agriculture since the council is blessed with fertile land mass. The new Chairman said apart from his programmes to better the lot of his people, his administration will cue in into the five pillars programme of the governor to take Umuahia South to the next level.

He told press men that his political party PDP remains a formidable party to reckon with, to him, what is happening to the party at the national level is a family affair that would be resolved soon. According to him PDP will come out stronger come 2019. “What is happening to our party at the national level is entirely a family affair. You will agree with me that some families do have misunderstanding which may be resolved at the end of the day so what is happening PDP is an in-house thing and I assure you that come 2019 PDP will come out stronger”. He stated on quote.
