The State Employment and Expenditure For Results Project (SEEFOR), an interventionist project of the World Bank and the European Union (EU), has extended its activities in Delta by two years.

The Project Coordinator in the state, Mr Benson Ojoko, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Sunday.

Ojoko said that the extension was to make up for the two years of delay in the commencement the programme in the state, pointing out that it took off in 2013 instead of 2011.

He said, “knowing very well that the delay will affect the achievement of the envisage objectives of the programme, the sponsors saw the need to extend the project by two years.

“It is also because most of the states that are implementing the project have said that if given further opportunity they will be able to employ more people than the number originally targeted.’’

He added that the extension was also because the EU had decided to provide complimentary financing to the original project as conceived by the World Bank.

Ojoko explained that the complementary financing was a non-repayable grant, adding that it was meant to help realise the objective s of the SEEFOR programme.

The coordinator further said that the extension of the rogramme would help the state to deliver on the key performance indicator assigned to the state.

NAN reports that in Delta, SEEFOR has carried out road maintenance, refuse collection and disposal.
