A 41-year-old driver, Philip Bulus, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the defendant, who resides at Kado village, Abuja, denied committing the offences.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Idibia Sunday of Lungu village, Gwarimpa Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station, on March 31.

Dalhatu said that the complainant alleged that sometime in February he entrusted his Mazda car to the defendant for commercial purpose.

The defendant agreed to remit N12, 000 weekly, but failed to keep to his promise.

He added that the money accumulated to N36, 000, covering three weeks.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant claimed to be the owner of the said car, and used it as collateral to collect N25, 000 without his consent.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N30, 000 and one surety in like sum

Sadiq said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case till May 5, for hearing.
