The Union of Allied Health Professionals, NUAHP, has suspended the three-week strike embarked upon to press for various demands stressing that it would resume the strike if the Federal Government fails to meet its demands as promised.

According to the NUAHP Chairman, University College Hospital, Ibadan, Comrade Olusegun Sotiloye who exclusively spoke with the magazine, the strike was suspended at the National Executive Council, NEC meeting held last Thursday March 30, 2017.

His words, “We NUAHP, have resolved to suspend our strike for just four weeks for the Federal Government to do the needful and failure to do the needful, we will commence our strike and this time, it will be until the government answers us”.

Comrade Sotiloye said that at this point in the health sector of Nigeria, the government should as a matter of urgency revamp and restructure the Ministry of Health especially the health sector for effectiveness and efficiency adding. “This is our first demands,” said he.

The union is further fighting for the failure of government to adjust the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) which was done for doctors in 2014, refusal of the government to obey the court judgements as regards the union, and immediate payment of all outstanding allowances from 2012.

Sotiloye regretted the attitude of the Federal Government towards the judiciary declaring that it is unthinkable that the government would not respect six judgements delivered regarding the union.
