Two commercial bus conductors — Wasiu Lukmon and Abdulraman Lukman — were on Wednesday charged with stabbing another conductor with broken bottle at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused — Lukmon, 24 and Lukman, 28 — whose addresses were not provided, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and threat to life.

The prosecutor, Insp. Okete Ejime, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 24 at 11.00 a.m. at Pelewura Market on Lagos Island.

He said the duo had engaged the complainant, Saidu Hassan, in a fight and stabbed him with broken bottles.

“The accused stabbed Hassan with broken bottles on the chest and left hand.

“The accused also threatened to stab another man, Dulaye Alzuma, with broken bottle,” Ejime said.

The offences contravened Sections 56, 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 56 provides one year imprisonment for threat to life, while Section 173 provides three years for assault occasioning harm.

The duo, however, denied the charges.

Mr Ikechukwu Annima, counsel to the accused, urged the court to grant them bail.

Ruling on the bail application of the accused, the Magistrate, Mrs O. G. Oghre, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and also provide evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until May 25 for mention.
