A Kano High Court on Wednesday adjourned the case of attempted murder of a Kano-based Chinese businessman, Mr Wu Haiwang to May 11, for ruling on whether or not that the state counsel should be allowed to tender a written statement by a witness interviewed by the Police.

Wu, who narrowly escaped the murder attempt with serious injuries, was attacked sometime in July 2016 at his warehouse in Kano.

NAN reports that when the case came up for hearing, counsel for the accused, Mr M. L. Garba demanded that all documents relevant to the case be brought to the court.

According to him, the documents included the statements written by the witnesses interviewed by the Police and all other documents relevant to the case.

He said his insistence to see the documents would enable him to prepare very well for his defence.

However, in his submission, the State’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr L. D. Sulaiman, objected to the application of the counsel to the accused person.

After listening to the heated argument from both sides, the presiding Judge, Justice Hadiza Sulaiman, adjourned the case until May 11, for ruling on whether the Court would grant the request of the counsel to the accused. (NAN)
