An NGO, Youth Initiative Against Violence and Human Rights Abuse (YIAVHA), has advised Nigerian youths to run for elective offices on the political platforms of their choice.

The Executive Director of the organisation, Mr Jacob Pwakim, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Jos.

Pwakim, who said active participation of youths in politics would usher in a new dawn for the country, also added:

“ Nigerian youths must know that it is never wrong to contest any elective position in this country.

“It is only when the youths take the bull by horns and begin to participate actively in politics that we will get the desired development this country needs.

“So, the youths must begin to move from being used as mere tools to win election and begin to play active role by vying for political positions.

“Only through that will this country attain the desired social, economic and political development.’’

“Thinking outside the party structure does not change much, go back and join political parties if you are really ready for true change, ” he further said.

Pwakim, however, urged political parties in the country to give room for youths to run for some political offices.
