Guard bags 10 months jail term for criminal breach of trust

A Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old security guard, Adamu Sabo to 10 months imprisonment for theft and criminal breach of trust.

The judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq , however, gave the convict an option of N 30, 000 fine and also ordered him to pay N 680, 000 as compensation to the nominal complainant.
The prosecutor, Mr Mahmud Ismai’la, had informed the court that one Charles Dafe of Federal Housing Estate, Karu, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on June 6.

He told the court that the defendant, who lived in the same neighbourhood with the complainant , had approached the complainant about three months ago to assist him get a job.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant was employed by the complainant as a security guard in his house and left some building materials within the premises under his care.
“On the said date, when the complainant returned from work, he discovered that some of the items have been stolen and they are 29 pieces of aluminum roofing sheets valued at N 638, 000.
“ Other items include, one car air conditioner valued at N35, 000, one wall air conditioner valued at N 35, 000, and one car radiator valued at N 25, 000, all worth N 733, 000.’’
After listening to the charges, the convict admitted to stealing all the items, except the wall air conditioner.
Ismai’la had told the court that the convict during police investigations, confessed to have sold the stolen items to a scavenger and efforts to recover the items proved abortive.
The offences contravened Sections 314 and 289 of the Penal Code
