Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria (BCAN) on Monday urged its members to massively participate in the forthcoming local government election in Lagos State.

BCAN President, Mr Israel Adeshola made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He called on all conductors in the state to ensure that they obtained their voter cards which, saying it was their only access to vote during the election.

Adeshola said that voting during elections was a civil responsibility of all citizens above the age of 18, which the conductors were also entitled to.

“I charge conductors in the state to ensure they vote massively in the forthcoming local government election in the state.

“Our association believes in the rule of law and democracy because it gives every citizen equal right to express himself or herself, particularly during elections.

“So I urged all members who are yet to obtain their voter cards to do so to enable them fully participate in the election.“

Adeshola, however, said that the association was supporting the state government because of the huge improvement under the leadership of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode within a short period.

He further admonished the conductors to maintain the highest level of discipline in line with the peaceful and orderly stand of the association during the election.

The forthcoming local government election will be held in 57 Local Government Council on July 22, while re-run election will be held on July 29.
