The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has commended the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) for promoting unity and religious harmony among Nigerians.

Mrs Buhari gave the commendation while delivering her goodwill message at the 2nd annual Ramadan iftar organised by NTA Muslim community on Thursday in Abuja.

The wife of the President who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Dr Hajo Sani, said that the NTA played a significant role in promoting peace in Nigeria.

Mrs Buhari said, NTA is one of the key pillars of national unity.

She also thanked management and staff of NTA for promoting the activities of her pet project, the Future Assured initiative which promote the health and physical wellbeing of women and children in Nigeria.

In his remark, the Director-General of NTA, Yakubu Ibn Muhammad, said that Islam is about understanding and urged the participants to avoid any situation that could lead to disunity.

The director-general, who was represented by the Executive Director, Marketing of the NTA, Mr Abdulhamid Dembos, expressed his gratitude to the staff for encouraging unity despite religious differences among them.

He, therefore, assured the staff of his readiness to ensure improvement of their working conditions.

On his part, the chairman of NTA Muslim community, Aliyu Baba Barau said, ” the aim of NTA iftar, is to promote unity and religious harmony among members of staff of the NTA”.

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onayikan, expressed solidarity with the Muslims community in NTA.

Onayikan urged the community to sustain the tempo.

Also speaking, the Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Mosque Sheikh Nura Khalid, said that the event sents a signal to the world that muslims and christians in Nigeria are united.

Khalid, therefore, called on Nigerians to stop the agitation for disintegration of the country.
