Gov. Ibrahim Dankwabo of Gombe State

Tangled Community Development Association (TCDA), has appealed to Gombe State government to urgently demarcate traditional boundary lines as identified and codify same to end communal clashes in the area.

Mr Kastner Teler, President of the association made the appeal at a media briefing in Billiri town on Thursday.

He said demarcating the boundary would go a long way in ending the feud between Tangale, Shongom and Kaltungo chiefdom in the state, which had claimed several lives and property.

“We believe as law-abiding citizens that it is the responsibility of government to do so and our loyalty to the government is unquestionable.

“One thing that is always clear about the crisis is that it is on the identification of our traditional boundary lines between Kaltungo chiefdom and Tangale chiefdom,’’ he said.

According to him, apart from Kaltungo chiefdom, the area also shares boundary lines with Akko LGA in Gombe State and Alkaleri LGA in Bauchi State, adding that “we have never had crisis between us and those communities.”

While recalling the recent crisis, he said 30 houses and several property worth millions of Naira, were destroyed.

He advised that all forms of weapons be recovered from the people of Shongom and Kaltungo and also prohibit hunting on all the traditional boundary lines as recommended by the State Security Committee during its meeting of July 8, 2016.

“We believe that the right thing to do is for government to enforce the agreement. Security is the primary responsibility of government.

“There is an urgent need to bring this crisis to an end now,” he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that on June 23, 2017 there was a clash between the Tangale Community of Billiri LGA, Shongom and Kaltingo Chiefdom over a farmland.

There had also been several other bloody clashes between the communities over the issue in the past 27 years.
