A mild drama played out at Port Harcourt International Airport when Acting President Yemi Osibanjo arrived there on the way to inauguration of $1.5 billion Indorama’s fertilizer plant in the Eleme area of Rivers State on Thursday.

The drama was between former governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi and his successor who is also the incumbent chief executive of the state, Nyesom Wike and their supporters.

Amaechi who is now the Minister of Transport had alighted from the Presidential Jet which brought Osinbajo to Port Harcourt from Abuja to the shouts of “the Lion” by members of All Progressives Congress who had besieged the Airport ahead of his arrival. He was followed by Senator Magnus Ngei Abe.

They both walked down to where the chopper which was waiting to take for Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to Eleme was parked.

The Acting President then alighted from the presidential jet and was received by Wike and a handful of traditional rulers and others already on queue for the traditional a formal handshake with the August Visitor.

The handshakes over, Wike pointed at the gleaming BMW already waiting to take Osinbajo to the venue of the commissioning plant instead of the already waiting chopper in which Amaechi, Abe and  some other were already seated. But the Acting President insisted on going with the chopper.

Wike who was visibly worried tried hard to convince Osinbajo to go with him and commission just one project, but the Acting President insisted that they head to the Chopper for the venue of the commissioning of the Fertilizer project.

Wike eventually bowed as he joined Osinbajo to ride in the Chopper where Senator Abe, and Amaechi were already seated.

Speaking later, the Acting President advised the two Rivers political to pursue issues that would bring development to the people rather than staying divided on partisan lines.

Speaking while commissioning the Chokocho-Umuechem-Ozuzu road and Chokocho -Igbo-Etche-Rumuokurushi Inter- Change in Etche Local Government Area , Osinbajo lauded  Governor Wike for embarking on pro-people projects.

He charged leaders of the State to always work for their people, saying that is the only way that the people can feel the impact of government.

The Acting President charged leaders to de-emphasise partisan concerns and work in the interest of their people.

He said: “We must always look for ways to advance the interest of our people.  We are greater together than apart. Today is a very happy day. We will always have happy days.

“Here with us to commission the project of the Rivers State Government is Senator Magnus Abe, who is from another party. The Federal Government supports every effort  that  benefits the  people.”

  • […] Earlier, a drama had played out at the Port Harcourt International Airport on whether the Acting President should ride in a gleaming BMW car provided by Governor Wike to take him to the site of commissioning of the Indorama’s fertilizer plant or a chopper where Amaechi and other APC chieftains were already seated.
