Lagos-based MFM FC’s quest to overtake Plateau United, Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) leaders on Sunday suffered a setback after a barren draw with Enyimba on Match Day 33 on Sunday.

But the leaders kept the hope of the Olukoya Boys alive, after they also played 1-1 away in Kano.

Plateau United still kept their lead with 59 points, while MFM trail with 56. But Plateau have 24 goal advantage.

The Fidelis Illechukwu-tutored Boys fired blank against the Peoples Elephant in the entertaining match in front of their cheering fans at the Soccer Temple, Agege, Lagos, as their league title aspiration is now huge doubt.

MFM was unable to break down the resolute Enyimba defence line with the visitor’s lone striker Mfom Udo being a thorn in their flesh.

Both teams, however, created few chances at goal during the feisty match.

MFM’s Media Officer, Olawale Quadri, said after the match that the team would keep the hope of clinching the league alive.

“We need to encourage ourselves in times like this and we will still keep the hope of winning the league alive. It is not over with us.

“We can still match the league leaders, so, we are not afraid of anything even the result. We are still within our target set at the beginning of the league season.

“We work, we hope, we pray and leave the rest to God. We played against a tough opposition, so the result id expected,’’ he said.

NAN reports that in spite of the barren draw against Enyimba, MFM still occupies the second position with 56 points from 33 matches.

On the other hand the table toppers Plateau United played a 1-1 draw away at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

The Peace Boys from Jos still maintain the lead with 59 points from 33 matches. . (NAN)
