Niger Tornadoes Technical Adviser Abubakar Bala: expressed delight with the victory and commended his boys for their response to the situation they found themselves in

Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna on Monday defeated visiting FC Ifeanyi Ubah of Nnewi 2-1 in a Match Day 36 fixture of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the game played at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja and scheduled for Sunday spilled over into Monday as a result of rain.

The downpour was so much that the referee had to call the match off at half time, with FC IfeanyiUbah leading 1-0.

NAN reports that a stoppage time penalty kick by Ammeh Wilfred however ensured the match hosts came from behind to beat the visiting side.

King Osanga had scored for FC IfeanyiUbah in the 27th minute of the game on Sunday, blasting onto the roof of the net after taking advantage of the drenched pitch.

The Niger Tornadoes’ defenceline had failed to react quickly to Wilson Eli’s long throw, and they did pay dearly for this.

The hosts earned a penalty kick a minute to the end of the first half, but they failed to utilise it to draw level.

The outpouring rain became too much for the second half to resume, leading to the officials moving the match to Monday morning.

Ibrahim Babawo’s effort was however to help the hosts draw level on Monday, with just three minutes to end the match.

Just as the match was looking to end in a draw, Wilfred scored to earn his team the full points.

Technical Adviser of Niger Tornadoes, Abubakar Bala, expressed delight with the victory and commended his boys for their response to the situation they found themselves in.

He said the win had put his side in good stead to end the season the way they wanted.(NAN)
