Governor Dickson swears in Soriwei (left) as his new media adviser

The Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson on Monday swore in Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, his newly appointed Media Adviser.

The Governor used the occasion to call on the Ijaw nation to forge a formidable bloc, in addressing the issues of under-development, poverty, unemployment and environmental degradation, rather than dissipate energies engaging in divisive tendencies.

The Governor, who underscored the need for unity among the people, said, he has no battles to fight in the Ijaw nation, other than promoting the Ijaw national interests.

According to Governor Dickson, his administration has kept faith with its policy of integrating Ijaw sons and daughters, in terms of appointments and scholarship programmes from its inception in 2012 to date.

His words: “At a time when our nation is going through various travails, I want to call on the Ijaw nation to stand together to confront the challenges facing us, ranging from under-development, environmental degradation, lack of job opportunities to the dehumanization of our people.

“Everyone knows that this government stands for the Ijaw national unity and it is in furtherance of with that policy of integration of our people, promoting and protecting our interest as well as giving our people a voice and a face, especially the areas they need support and encouragement. That is why today, you are appointed as one of my media aides.”

He urged the Ijaw people not to denigrate one another, particularly at a period when the country is facing a myriad of economic and security challenges, assuring that, more appointments would be made to deserving Ijaw sons and daughters in the days ahead.

Describing Mr. Soriwei as one of the best hands in the media industry, Governor Dickson charged him to be a team player in the restoration government and intensify efforts at building cordial relationships, within and outside the government.

Until his appointment, Mr. Soriwei, who hails from Arogbo Ijaw in Ondo State, was a Sub-Assistant Editor with the Punch Newspaper, with 19 years working experience in information management.
