RETRACTION AND APOLOGY. RE: OUR STORY TITLED “JUDGE STUNS SENIOR LAWYER MBANEFO BY DECLINING BAIL ON SELF RECOGNITION”

Our attention has been drawn to our story titled, “Judge Stuns Senior Lawyer Mbanefo By Declining Bail On Self Recognition” which we published in TheNEWS website (www.thenewsnigeria.com.ng on the 5th May, 2015.

It has come to our notice that our reference to Mr. Louis Mbanefo (SAN) in the said story was very erroneous and an unfortunate case of mistaken identity. The said story referred to another lawyer, also named Louis Mbanefo ( but who is not the son of the learned Senior Advocate).

The said lawyer to whom the story referred was aged 38 years at the time of our publication whilst the Senior Advocate, whose picture and profile were featured in the aforesaid publication was 71 years old at the time.

We hereby tender our unreserved apologies for the error which is sincerely regretted. And we hereby affirm our great respect for the learned Senior Advocate Louis Mbanefo.
