Taliban Militants have shot and killed five brothers in Afghanistan’s Western Herat province, an Official said on Saturday.

Jailani Farhad, a spokesperson for the Herat governor, said the incident took place on Friday in Chah Gardana area of Ghoryan district.

Farhad said the five brothers had been killed following a public trial.

Although the official did not disclose the reason for the killings, the Taliban alleged that the five men were “kidnappers’’ and that the militants had “rescued two women’’.

Taliban spokesperson Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said in a statement that the kidnappers started firing on the militants when their vehicles, which carried the two women, were stopped at a checkpoint.

Human rights organisations have condemned the militants’ act of vigilante justice.

The Taliban have carried out executions and hangings and stoned people for alleged crimes in provinces or areas under their control.

According to the media reports, the group had hung a man accused of kidnapping in Nad Ali district in Afghanistan’s embattled southern Helmand province. (dpa/NAN)
