Police Sergeant dies after rescue of British hostages

Sanusi Lanre, a police sergeant member of the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) who took part in the rescue of four British hostages in Delta State last Wednesday has died after operation to extract the bullet lodged in his stomach during gun battle with the kidnappers.

This was announced by Mr. Abba Kyari, head of the IRT team on his Facebook page.

According to him, the deceased was shot in a gun battle with the abductors of the four British citizens in Delta State on Wednesday and died at noon on Friday, following a surgery conducted to extract the bullet in his stomach and rectify the damage it had caused.

Mr.  Kyari also disclosed that the kidnapper who shot him was also killed, while two of his colleagues had been arrested earlier.

Kyari described the deceased as one of the best tracking officers on the team.

“We pray that our gallant officer, who died in the line of duty will rest in peace. May almighty God give his family the fortitude to bear the loss, Ameen,” wrote Mr.Kyari.
