Just like with Christmas, this year’s New Year celebration is certainly going to be a low keyed one for many families.

A visit to some markets popular for sale of poultry products in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on the New Year eve for instance revealed that there are many more sellers than buyers.

This was particularly the case in Kuje Area Council market; it was observed that there was low patronage despite the relative stability in prices of products.

A bowl of tomatoes, tatashe, atarodo goes for N100, N100, and N50 respectively while depending on the size and bargaining power of the buyer, cockerels and broilers can be bought for between N2000 and N4000.

However, ‘emergency butchers’ who have set up shop in markets across Abuja are making a kill from the few buyers of the poultry products as they help in the slaughter and cutting of the birds into pieces at price of N100.00 per one.
