Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs) has called for youths involvement in SDGs attainment in the country.

Orelope-Adefulire made the call on Wednesday in Abuja at the official unveiling of a cycling competition with the theme, “Racing for Sustainable Development”.

The presidential aide, represented by Mrs Lola Olaope, the Head of Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS), in the Office of the SSAP-SDGs said the competition would hold on Feb. 24 in Abuja.

She said the competition, organised in partnership with a private firm, Dapper Exclusive Style Limited, was an exclusive awareness campaign aimed at promoting 13 out of the 17 goals of the SDGs.

Orelope-Adefulire said the target was to achieve the 13 goals through cycling sports as well as embracing the culture of cycling daily among Nigerians.

“I wish to implore all Nigerians to participate in this upcoming event, not only for the winnings but also to create awareness on how we can collectively save our planet.

“The youths of this country should be actively involved in achieving these goals for a sustainable future,” she said.

Mr Femi Akunji, the President of Dapper Exclusive Style Limited said non-cycling participants at the event would also benefit from the platform created for Nigerians to be part of the process.

He said a climate change card had been created to encourage Nigerians to take up an environmentally friendly ways of life.

Akunji said the organisers of the competition had included perks on the cards and assured that the benefits would be enormous.

“Permit me to state here that the event is being organised at no cost to the government as it is entirely funded by the organisers through corporate sponsorship,” he said.

Mr Massari Giandomenico, the President, Cycling Federation of Nigeria commended the organisers of the competition and pledged that the federation would offer technical support to the event.
