Hosts Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure on Wednesday defeated Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt 2-0 in the week four of the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yahuza Bala scored the first goal in the 80th minute before Franklin Sasere sealed the game in the 89th minute.

The referee had disallowed Sikiru Alimi’s goal on the stroke of half time for a foul on a visiting defender in the match played at the Ondo State Sports Complex.

Sunshine Stars’ Head Coach Duke Udi, in a post-match interview, said his team had to change tactics by bringing in more attackers before the team could get goals.

Udi noted that the away team had improved compared to the last team they met in Port Harcourt.

He added that his team would continue to improve match after match.

“They (Rivers United) are a very good side, a dangerous side, and they played good football. But, in the end, I am happy we won the match,” the coach said.

On hs part, Stanley Eguma, the Head Coach of Rivers United, said he was happy with the officiating of the match.

Eguma said his side would take the positives of the match back home and ensure maximum victory in their next match against Enyimba International.

NAN reports that Sunshine Stars, now with seven points from four matches, will take on Abia Warriors in the week five of the NPFL.
