The deputy Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Of Agriculture Abeokuta, Professor Sanni Lateef Olademeji has advised couples to eschew violence in their homes.

He said that couples should properly maximise the joy of marriage for the uplift of their immediate family and the society in general. Husband and wife should therefore eschew violence which could have negative impact on their home,children and the nation.

The deputy vice chancellor, stated this at the launch and public presentation of a book, “Wedding Anniversary,”authored by lslammiyah Saudique Kadejo in Abeokuta. He posited that domestic violence has brought untold hardship and sorrow to many homes in the country and in many underdeveloped countries.

Also speaking, a motivational speaker,Mrs Lilian Aman Aluko noted that domestic violence and abuse often lead to societal destruction.

In addition ,Dr Mrs Tope Olaifa,an edutionalist and a woman rights crusader, in her keynote address entitled “when spouses kill the past and the future”pointed out with dismay that, disagreement which could be amicably settled often leads to estrangement and destruction of the home if not promptly controlled.

She highlighted effects of domestic violence to include, hatred, economic losses, reduction in socio economic growth of the country as well as drug abuse and family separation,urging government and other stakeholders to proffer lasting solution to the menace.

The author Islammiyah Saudique Kadejo noted that the prevalence of domestic violence is getting higher and it is affecting not just our family but affecting the entire nation economically and people are already killing themselves hence the need to rise up and put a stop to it.

Islammiyah posed that the money raised from the launch would be used to fund a foundation she named after her late mother( Amdalah Foundation) to assist women who need to move out of domestic violence relationship to move ahead in life.

Such assistance include food, clothing,shelter and skill acquisition

Also the Director of Commerce and Industry, Mr.Kayode Ogunti representimg the Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, in his goodwill message advised that domestic violence must be put to a stop and the message should be spread to people through religious group.
