Tambuwal’s wife donates food items to orphans in Sokoto

Wife of Sokoto State Governor, Hajia Mariya Tambuwal, on Wednesday donated foodstuff, detergents and clothes to 160 orphans brought from the two states affected by insurgency and sheltered by a philanthropist, Alhaji Umarun Kwabo, in Sokoto.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Mrs Tambuwal made the donation when she visited the special school constructed by the philanthropist for the children oorphaned by insurgency.

She described Kwabo’s efforts as fatherly, commendable and worthy of emulation by well to do persons in the society.

She assured that she will continue to support the school, stressing that the responsibility should be shouldered by all in recognition of the position of supporting orphans in religious perspective.

The Governor`s wife further enjoined well-to-do individuals, groups and organizations to emulate Kwabo by establishing similar support programmes.

In his remarks, the School Board of Trustee, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, said 110 children were brought from Borno, 20 from Yobe while 30 were selected from the 23 local government areas in Sokoto state.

Dingyadi said 120 were boys while 40 were girls, adding that Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo initiated the support programme and sponsored the education and up keeping of the children.

He said some women teachers of Kanuri tribes were brought from Borno and fully employed by the school management to facilitate conducive learning environment for the pupils

According to him, the pupils were being taught Qur’anic and western education in the school.

He said the efforts was aimed at assisting the humanity in accordance with Allah`s injunction, stressing that he would sponsor the education of the orphans up to secondary school level.
