A Grade 1 Area Court, Karu, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 28-year-old man, Rabiu Musa, to five months imprisonment, for stealing a decoder and stabbing the owner severally on the arm.

The convict, a resident of Karu, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of assault, causing grievous hurt and theft, but begged for leniency.

The judge, Hassan Ishaq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N13,000 fine.
Earlier, prosecutor, Vincent Osiji, had told the court that one Daniel Umeh of Karu village, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station, on Feb. 19 at about 3:p.m.
Osiji said the complainant alleged that, on Feb. 16, the convict stole his decoder and stabbed him in the process of stealing the item.

“The complainant confronted the defendant, asked him to return his decorder, but refused; the complainant reported the case and police invited the convict.

“While the police were still persuading the defendant to go with them to the station, he pulled out a knife and stabbed the complainant severally on the right arm,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 265, 248 and 287 of the Penal Code
