A 49-year-old man, Ebhota Adams, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife over alleged stealing of a vehicle battery.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 3 at about 05:30 pm at “A” Divisional Police Station, Moore, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the accused stole one 75 amps Dumex Auto Battery valued at N22, 000 from a vehicle with Registration Number EDO-AJ-413 EKP parked at the station’s premises.

He added that the accused conducted himself in a manner that caused breach of public peace by scattering the office files kept on the table at the Motor Traffic Division Office.

He said the accused also squeezed the police station form given to him and threw it outside.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 249 (d), 383 and 390 (4), (f), (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and breach of public peace.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, applied for the bail of his client, pledging that his client would not jump bail..

Magistrate Ishola Omisade granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.

Omisade, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, said that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means while his address must be verified by a court official in addition to submission of two recent passport photographs.

He adjourned the case till March 19 for hearing.
