A 27-year-old marketer, Tochukwu Nwadiorioha, who allegedly stole N118, 950 from a woman to play Naijabet, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates Court.

Nwadiorioha, who lives at No. 70, Oniwaya St., Agege, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of stealing.

The accused allegedly collected a sum of N118, 950 from the complainant, Miss Onyeka Chukwu, and converted the money to personal use, according to the prosecution.

Police Sgt. Nomayo Kenrich told the court the accused committed the offence on June 28 at 10.00 a. m. at No. 22, Oniwaya St., Agege in Lagos.

“The complainant sent the accused to deposit a sum of N118, 950 in her account but the accused used the money to play Naijabet,” he said.

The offence violated Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section stipulates a seven-year imprisonment for offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the accused bail to a bail of N30, 000 with two sureties.

Kubeinje said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

In addition, she said the sureties must be blood relations of the accused.

She adjourned the case until Sept. 12.
