Enugu APC governorship aspirant appeals disqualification

A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Mr Ejike Ugwu, has appealed against his disqualification by the Governorship Screening Committee of the party.

In a letter addressed to the national leadership of the party and made available to newsmen in Enugu, Ugwu said that the reversal of his disqualification would ensure justice and fair play to all.

He said that the move would also be in line with the philosophy of the party, which is anchored on equity and fairness.

The governorship aspirant said that he was the only aspirant out of the six from the state that was disqualified by the committee, adding that no reason was given for that.

The letter read in part: “I joined our great party in 2014 and was the flag bearer of the party in Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani Federal Constituency having fulfilled all the requirements, including financial obligations.

“I have never been indicted by any panel of inquiry or found guilty by any court of competent jurisdiction.

“I have no pending criminal case in any court in Nigeria and outside and there is no ongoing investigation against me before any of the graft commissions or security agencies,” he said.

Ugwu said that he had genuine certificates, adding that it was absurd how such decision was taken against him.

He said that he had spent his time and resources working for a strong and virile APC in the state and has carried the ‘cross’ of the party in Enugu.

“I am in dismay as to the reason for my non-clearance having satisfied all statutory requirements of our party constitution, Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

He requested the APC national chairman to reverse the injustice.

APC governorship primaries will hold on Sept. 30 nationwide.
