The Enugu State Police Command said it had recovered seven bags of Indian hemp weighing 50kg from a popular market in Enugu, the state capital.

Its Spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said this in a statement in Enugu on Sunday, adding that the substance was recovered after a raid of a joint near the New Market.

Amaraizu said that the substance was recovered by operatives of Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU) last Friday, adding that the operatives carried out the raid in the night following intelligence report.

He said that the command had initiated a manhunt for the dealer of the illicit substance.

He said that the ACU on Friday also arrested two members of a syndicate alleged to be notorious for stealing tricycles in Enugu metropolis.

Amaraizu said that the suspects confessed to have also been involved in cult activities in Enugu and environs.

He said that investigation into the matter had commenced and assured residents of the command’s determination to make the state safe through intensive and effective policing.
