The African Democratic Congress, ADC has installed Mrs. Juliet Jolaoluwa Opaleye  as “Iyalode Gbogbo Obinrin of ADC” to signify the importance it attached to women’s participation in the affairs of the party.

‘Iyalode’ is a chieftancy title commonly bestowed on women in Yorubaland. Traditionally, the Iyalode signifies the “queens of ladies” and is given to the most prominent and distinguished lady in or from the town.
Ogun state woman leader of the party Mrs Elizabeth Aiyemidara told journalists that in Abeokuta that the party installed the Iyalode to change the current situation in which only two per cent of women are involved in politics.
She noted that contrary to the present situation, ADC will give 30 percent of the positions to women, 30 percent to the youths and the remaining 40 percent to the men.
Aiyemidara added that it’s better to install a woman with the title because women knows how to mobilise themselves for politics.
“The ideal of conferment of Iyalode was brought by the leaders of the party who believe that more women will be wooed and drawn into politics because of the title.
“We feel this is the right time to install an iyalode of the women folk despite the fact that the leaders of the party are proffering tangible and peaceful solution to various challenges arising from our primaries election,” Mrs Aiyemidara said adding that the newly installed iyalode is a unique woman whose uniqueness is beyond party.
The newly installed “Iyalode Gbogbo Obinrin of ADC” Chief (Dr) Mrs. Juliet Jolaoluwa Opaleye in her speech said that ADC is unique, quite different from all the other political parties in the country as it has given women and youths so much opportunity to express themselves and what they want to do.
Opaleye urged women to ensure the election of the governorship candidate of ADC to office come 2019.
She also assured that as the Iyalode, she would mobilise women for ADC in ogun state.
Opaleye therefore pledged her to use her talent, her life to work for ADC because the party has so much to offer the people of ogun state.
