Apo – Karshi road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

The Coordinator, Satellite Towns Development Department, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Mr Ishaku Yamawo says the Apo – Karshi road under construction has reached 75 per cent completion.

Yamawo stated this while briefing newsmen on the progress of the project on Monday in Abuja.

According to him, the Apo-Karshi project is still ongoing and is at 75 per cent completion.

“FCTA is totally commitment towards the completion of the Apo -Karshi Road as well as other projects within the satellite towns with the view to alleviate the sufferings of the masses residing in the areas.

“The administration is in every way concerned about the masses and will continue to do its possible best to ensure that all ongoing projects are completed as at when due.

The coordinator noted that not all road constructions can be done during heavy rains.

“Presently the contractor is working on the construction of Culvert extension at CH8+800, removal of unsuitable materials and fillings at various locations of the site.

“The Karshi – Apo project is a total length of 13.125km road and asphalt surface laid is 7.95km, formation level competed is 10.825km and work is ongoing with the cutting of the hill between CH8+820-CH9+350.

“The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello is very much aware of the importance of the road.

He attributed the delay in the completion of the project to some technical issues which has currently been resolved.

“The work slowed down a little because of the rains but will be resumed fully for completion soon as the rains stop,’’ he said.

Yamawo promised that the project will be completed for ease of movements and to boost economic activities within the satellite towns.

He, however, appealed to public for understanding as the administration was redoubling its efforts to ensure the road was completed.

When completed, the coordinator said the road will reduce pressure on the residents by ensuring easy movement along the axis.

The Apo-Karshi road contract, awarded in 2010 to open up Abuja and its suburb, is yet to be completed, eight years after.
