The organisers of the GOtv Boxing Night scheduled to hold on Oct. 14 say that all modalities to ensure that the event runs smoothly and successfully are already underway.

Tagged the “Independent Edition’’, Jenkins Alumona, Managing Director of Flykite Promoters, on Tuesday told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that boxing fans would have a night they would always reminisce.

“We are ready to host GOtv Boxing Night 16 which is expected to be far better than what boxing fans has ever witnessed in the history of Nigerian boxing.

“No fewer than 18 boxers will clash in the ring in various weight categories, among the fights will be two international bouts that is set to take the center stage.

“Boxing fans coming to watch the fight at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere are assured of good security and a night of action packed fun,’’ Alumona said.

One of the international bouts of the night will involve Ghanaian boxer, Benjamin Lamptey, who has vowed to demolish Nigeria’s Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu and end his winning run, Alumona added.

He said that the two fighters would clash for the West African Boxing Union (WABU) Lightweight title.

Similarly, Lamptey speaking from his base has noted that he had enough skill power in his locker to end his Nigerian opponent’s winning streak and return to Ghana with the title.

“I’m looking forward to this fight, which offers me a great opportunity to show Ghana’s greatness in boxing. I am coming to defeat Oladosu and take the title to Ghana,” bragged Lamptey.

He added that he is familiar with his opponent’s strengths and weaknesses and claimed he had fought better boxers in Ghana and elsewhere.

“I have seen his fight, I know all about him. Oladosu has no chance of winning,” he said

Oladosu in his reply to Lamptey said that he was mentally ready to humiliate him, adding that he was confident of a fine outing and would beat him like a kid on the ring.

“Lamptey is a kid in boxing, I have also watched his clips, he will not last with me,” Oladosu said.

There will also be an international Lightweight challenge between reigning African Boxing Union (ABU) Lightweight champion, Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph of Nigeria and Anama Dotse, also of Ghana.

Hard punching Joseph told NAN that he was ready to crush his opponent and wanted fans to come and give him support to achieve his goal.

“I am ready to crush Dotse, I don’t care where his from, here in Lagos he is going to see hell, I will round him up in round five,” Joseph said.

Also available on the night is the prestigious national Light Heavyweight title to be contested by Kabiru “KB Godson” Towolawi and Adewale “Masevex” Masebinu.

The Featherweight category will see a rematch between Waidi “Skoro” Usman and Chibuzor “T Boy” Obi.

The event will equally feature an array of boxers from last two editions of the GOtv Boxing NextGen Search.

They include Opeyemi “Sense” Elijah, Best Boxer at GOtv Boxing NextGen 4, who will take on Sheriff “Oshe” Ogunbanjo in a Super Bantamweight duel.

Also included is Taiwo “Esepo” Agbaje, who will take on Tope “TP Rock” Musa in a Lightweight clash. Azeez “Who Say So” Tijani will square up with Waheed “Showmax” Shogbanmu.

Another GOtv Boxing NextGen graduate, Isaac “I Star” Chukwudi, will slug it out with Adeyemi “Spirit” Adekanla in a Welterweight clash.

Aminu “Lucky Boy” Akintayo will face Mutiu “Machine” Lawal in a Super Flyweight division contest.

The event will be beamed live on SuperSport in 47 African countries. The best boxer at the event will go home with a cash prize of N1.5 million alongside the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy.
