Maku:

Labaran Maku, the Nasarawa State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), says he will reclaim all the assets of the state sold by the previous government, if elected the governor in 2019.

Maku made this disclosure at a meeting with members and stakeholders of APGA in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Friday in Doma.

The politician, who was a former Minister of Information and the National Secretary of APGA, said, “the state is not for sale” hence his decision to reclaim all the property of the state sold to individuals.

Maku said that the assets were the inheritance of the state in the property jointly owned by Nasarawa State and Plateau, as the former was carved out from the latter on Oct. 1, 1996.

He also said that he would bring back the liquidated Nasarawa Investment and Property Company.

The former minister explained that the company was the one managing all government hotels and other businesses within and outside the state.

“No state in the country can survive sorely from the federal allocation, so it is the company that will manage business for government to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

“We will reposition and strengthen it by establishing more cottage industries that would be managed by the company to generate employment,” Maku added.

According to Maku, under his watch, there will not be any indiscriminate sale of lands.

He, therefore, assured the public that he would prioritise security, employment, promotion of civil servants and infrastructure development among others.

The state House of Assembly on Sept. 25, approved Gov. Tanko Al-Makura’s request to sell Nasararwa State’s assets in Lagos, Jos, and Kaduna.

The governor cited the continued dilapidation and deterioration of the property as reason for the request.
