The Kogi government says it will strive to encourage entrepreneurial and leadership skills among students in the state.

Mr. Deola Eseyin, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Empowerment, Sports and Students’ Affairs, who said this on Monday in Lokoja, emphasised the need to introduce such skills to the students “at an early age”.

He spoke at a quiz, spelling and debate competition organised to mark the 15th year anniversary of National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS).

“We want to encourage and promote entrepreneurial and leadership skills in the younger so as to prepare them toward a greater Kogi in the near future,” he said.

Eseyin said that government was ready to create an enabling environment to build students’ capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage business ventures alongside their academics.

He commended NAKOSS executive council, led by the President, Moses Omeiza, for initiating the competitions, and also lauded the association for organising a “Peace Talk” centered on campaigning against drug abuse, child trafficking and thuggery among students.

NAN reports that the LGEA Primary School, Sarikin Noma won the top prize for spelling, with LGEA School Lokongoma emerging runners-up, while St. Luke’s II LGEA, Adankolo came third.

In the quiz competition, Holy Trinity Secondary School, Lokoja came 1st, followed by Government Science Secondary School, Lokoja, while Bishop Delise College, Lokoja, came 3rd.
