The police in Lagos on Tuesday narrated how a mother of four was shot dead in a desperate bid to save the life of her husband during an armed robbery attack at home on New Year’s Day.

Parading two suspects arrested over the incident on Tuesday in Lagos, state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, told journalists that the woman pleaded with the robbers not to shoot her husband but she was shot dead on the chest.

“On Jan. 1, 2019, at about 4 a.m., some dare devil armed robbers invaded the home of one Mr Akin and held the man and his wife Modupe Catherine, now late, hostage at gun point.

“At this time, their children were in the church for the cross over service. The deceased stood between the robbers and her husband and started pleading with them not to kill him.

“Unfortunately for the woman, one of the robbers pulled the trigger, firing the deceased on her chest. They made away with their phones, laptops and a sum of N2,200.

“Based on the sad event, operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) visited the scene and gathered items of evidential importance which were analysed leading to the arrest of one of the robbers.

“During interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime. He later led detectives to arrest one other suspect who served as their armourer,’’ he said.

Similarly, operatives of the command arrested six robbery suspects at Ajegunle area and recovered four Ak-47 rifles, three pump action guns and some ammunition.

According to Edgal, the suspects moved to other parts of the state to rob and return to Ajegunle for safety, stressing that the gang was capable of holding any security operatives for a battle in view of the weapons they carried.

He said three other robbery suspects belonging to different gangs were also arrested in the state,

According to the police commissioner, a suspect was arrested with a cut to size triple barrel gun with seven un-expended cartridges at Alaba International Market.

Edgal said that One Acura SUV with Reg. No. KTU 253 FL which served as his operational car was also recovered from him.

The police boss said that at CMD Road, Ikosi Ketu, Lagos, two traffic robbers were arrested, stressing that houses of the two suspects were searched, where one pump action gun with two lives cartridges were recovered.

“At Olosha Bus Stop, Mushin, on Jan. 19 at about 2:30pm, two armed robbery suspects were also arrested.

“Exhibits recovered from the suspects were; one locally made double barrel pistol, criminal charms and one Volkswagen Golf with Reg. No XM-346-MUS,” he said.
