The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) chapter, has said that its members were part of the union’s ongoing strike.

This disclosure was contained a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Dr Biodun Olaniran and secretary, Toyin Abegunrin, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The union in the statement, said that there was no academic activity going on at LAUTECH, as its members were complying with the national strike called by ASUU.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) recalls that the institution resumed academic activities for the 2018/2019 session on Monday.

Some stakeholders had earlier called on the union to resume academic activities in the interest of the students.

However, the union said that it was monitoring the activities of the university management and would not allow it to sow any seed of discord among its members.

“It is surprising that the management that has barely one month to the expiration of its tenure would want to create frictions among members, which has never happened in the 29 years of the existence of the university.

“At the appropriate time, the motive for this act… would be made known to the public,” the statement read.

It added that the representatives of the Ogbomoso Parapo and Parents’ Forum met with the leadership of ASUU, LAUTECH chapter on January 7, 2019 to discuss its involvement in the ongoing ASUU strike.

The union at the meeting, which lasted more than two hours, explained the position of the union in the spirit of the ASUU national strike.

“At the end of the meeting, the group was satisfied with the explanations of the lecturers for their participation in the strike, which is hoped to be resolved very soon”.

The union lauded the parents for their understanding, urging them not to allow anybody to use their children against their teachers.
